Has anyone else thought about how a woman can be tom boyish and still considered straight but a guy who’s even slightly feminine is usually immediately assumed to be queer? I think this says something about men being the gender default in society.

idk if it’s exactly that men is the default gender, but standards for masculinity for men are very strict. this doesn’t just apply to clothes, men are constantly being shamed for being “feminine”

But butchs and studs get made fun of constantly tho for being masculine

My thinking with this is that a woman acting more masculine is okay, because masculine is the default. However a man who wants to be more feminine is an outlier and breaking from the norm because he’s acting less masculine.

But yeah your point is definitely valid and I agree, this was just something I talked about with some friends before and was thinking of again.

Yeah there’s definitely a like “limit” which is why I said tomboyish and slight feminine. A girl can act more masculine than a guy can act feminine before she’s considered gay. At least from my personal experience. My stepmom was tomboyish as a kid but once she did the pixie and started only dressing from the boys section her parents got wise, so it’s not like women can be as masculine as they want. More just they can be more masculine than men can be feminine
