generative AI data centers are giving people asthma and lung cancer btw. theyre putting it in rural communities and farmers' animals and crops are getting sick & dying btw. its a fancy autocomplete that is killing people btw
Several coal burning power plants which were intended to be retired had their lifespans extended in order to power data centers for increased demand caused by generative AI. Ain’t that lovely ☹️…

did u knw some of them even make so much SOUND thattheyre driving rural communities and their animals mad with anxiety, sleep deprivation and headaches from the constant low frequency hums since there's no real enforced sound laws

Same thing happens with factory farms and producing a single hamburger takes significantly more water than an AI search query

Just in one city

its not about a single query, thats where theyre tricking you. its about the amount of computations, which are happening 24/7 in a pass/fail manner even if you are not using it actively, that allow the AI to work in the first place.

Yes I’m aware, factory farms create similar pollution affecting rural communities. Both these industries need to be regulated

And don’t get my point confused, I’m not pro AI. But if we are going to start talking about water consumption and environmental threat we need to discuss factory farming bc it’s a far greater issue that’s deeply engrained into a lot of our lives

girl we have BEEN talking about factory farming forever. now we are talking about something else also. two things can be true at once

Anonymous#31w
Ok but do you still eat factory farmed meat?

Anonymous#21w
please dont tell me you actually believe hamburger factories are using more water than the amount of bottled water bought globally
1
AnonymousOP1w
Factory farming plants use vastly more water, then consume roughly 70% of all global freshwater. Yes that is VASTLY more than is used in the bottled water industry. Do some research plz

lets use our brains comrade. there are VASTLY more factory farms than AI data centers and the numbers are still close enough to be concerning. so theyre both bad.
1
AnonymousOP1w
No the numbers are not close, factory farming uses VASTLY more water
-2
AnonymousOP1w
But yes they are both bad and are of concerns to us
-2
AnonymousOP1w
When you look at the big picture, yeah ai uses a lot of water, but when compared to the water used in farming it’s just a FRACTION

“So it’s happened before why bother fixing it now” okay dude just because you don’t care about others and the planet and only care about your sad fat ass, doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t care
