I practice intuitive eating and it’s fine for like 3 days but I think I’m a bit different in the head so after those 3 days I just EAT and then forget I was doing it Or I try and count calories and… yeah that is fine for a day, maybe two considering I have enough time. Then it becomes a game of how low can I go until I become hungry and then binge eat.
Personally, I think tracking calories can start putting you in a dangerous headspace for trying to lose weight, especially if you have had a past ed. What I try to do, is just buy the “healthier” versions of things and to incorporate more protein, fruit, and veggies, especially if you are working out. I think it’ll start coming off more than you realize, if you stick to a healthier lifestyle!
it’s definitely super difficult, but i try to get away from trying to lose weight and focus more on being healthy and treating myself right. recently i’ve been more focused on being happy and grateful too. like we’re not here for very long, so why not be as happy as possible while we are? some days that means eating salad and chicken breasts, some days that means eating pastries and fast food. it’s really hard, but you’re strong girl i believe in you
(advice for anyone struggling with this) Dont count calories unless you really trust yourrself with that. Just eat 80-90% whole/minimally processed foods, with about 30% fruits/veggies, 30% carbs, 30% protein. Eat 3 meals a day, and be conscious of when your body feels hungry and full (intuitive eating). And obviously exercise cardio and strength on top of that. If you try all that consistently and it doesn't work, you are probably at a healthy weight already (or you need to see a doctor).
It’s because comparison is the thief of joy. People are so wierd about weight even when it’s the least interesting thing about you, whether you gain, lose, whatever. Also don’t fall for labels-look at ingredient lists. You don’t need the more expensive organic product- especially if it’s a protein bar, for example. Don’t be scared of frozen food, don’t think you have to completely switch up your diet completely or else you will be broke 💔 also try to find movement in things you LIKE
As someone who recovered from an ED(Anna) I’d say that my best advice for keeping a healthy weight would be to swap snacks for a simple protein shake(my fav rn is the strawberries and cream from Element) instead of eating unhealthy snacks like chips and stuff you’re getting a high protein drink that helps keep you full. Which in turn can help prevent you from overeating. I often find myself eating when bored on top of my scheduled three meals(I do allow a snack or two after dinner).
imo it’s best to approach it from a grateful, kinda moral pov. It’s moral to take care of your body, and not to eat things your body doesn’t me. It’s like managing your resources responsibly. You shouldn’t overspend your money, but it’s fine to indulge when you have saved. You shouldn’t overeat, especially when un-needed and unhealthy, but when you can afford it it’s fine to indulge. Just being mindful of how you’re treating your body.
I never worried abt my weight till my metabolism began slowing down. I tried cal counting and never before had I been so HUNGRY! Focusing that much on food all day does that surprisingly. Counted for a whole month + gym and never saw any changes. I’ve since stopped and have just been conscious about what I eat. I’d say the only good thing about having counted was that I now have a better idea of which foods are best in moderation. Focusing on balance is way more effective imo.
im trying to do more intuitive eating and eating better when im at work and i've cut out most processed foods but i also dont deprive myself of foods i enjoy (like fries or cookies) bc everything is fine in moderation and then i try to run or workout but am i doing it bc i enjoy doing so or am i punishing my body for wanting "unhealthy foods"
i personally feel like its a bit harder for women to have a healthy relationship with food and lose weight, mainly because most weight loss things are catered towards men- our cycles arent catered into it. and then with the trends in diet culture and don't get me started on glp-1 ads everywhere.
im not saying that lmao. i mean that besides choosing more whole foods / less junk tracking caloric intake and macros to an intense degree can (not always, but can) lead to disordered eating habits. as in my case i have to avoid doing so because it'll lead back into my past habits and that wasn't healthy for me the way i was restricting myself- and im sure its similar for others. if its easy for you that way then great! but its not for others.
if you’re quite overweight you do have to practice this unfortunately. When your body is used to so many calories it’s going to make you much more hungry when you need to be eating less. However if you’re already a good weight, or don’t have a tendency to overeat, then you likely don’t have to do this
no yeah, im not saying to immediately drop your portion sizes, you work your way there HEALTHILY i haven’t developed an ed but ive had an unhealthy relationship with food as i was growing up and have learned MY body when im actually hungry and just bored. it’s important to see a nutritionist if you dont trust yourself to monitor unhealthy eating choices and possibky see a therapist if its linked to mental trauma. take the steps that makes you a better you.
Well I was super overweight and could not get myself out of my ways so I went on a weight loss med and it’s changing my life. It’s not for everyone but I was about to get diabetes so I was eligible and I’m slowly learning how to become healthier while taking it. It’s not for the weak and it’s certainly not the “easy way out” like most uneducated people like to say. If you’re in any position similar to mine, it may be worth looking into <3
it has the potential to lead to disordered eating habits it does not definitively lead to it, it’s about being conscious and aware and to watch yourself. I am saying this as a person who has had disordered eating issues and a fluctuating relationship with food for years. when you know yourself and your habits you can pick and choose what health plan is best because each plan needs to be tailored for the individual, we are all so different and no one exact routine will work for everyone
or even from person to person, i understanding seeing that tracking tends to lead down that path when we are so used to it but you must consciously work through and retrain your brain and its thinking bout food and tracking of food, it’s hard and a lot of work but proper therapy and interventions can help💙
i prb shouldve worded it better. im not saying to wait till your pain. im saying to wait till your body is subtly telling you you’re hungry. not just your inner thoughts telling you to snack on smth. ive been eatng regularly and with better meals and because of that i havent needed to snack
If someone says you HAVE to be sprinting up and down the block every day, they’re wrong- sure it’s one way to go but does that work for everyone? No. You know yourself best. Don’t trust influencers- maybe they have cool workout routines to try and fun recipes (and not all of them are bad) but at the end of the day, a lot of them are selling products and not telling full truths. You don’t need to be following weight loss/fitness influencers in order to commit to weight loss: NEVER.
I’m sure it’s different for gaining weight vs trying to maintain what weight I do have but I feel like this would at least help you not gain any weight. If you throw in some extra workouts(even just walking around a park) that should def help lose some weight. You could also adjust what you do eat for your three meals, maybe if you eat a lot of fast food you can start making yourself have a home cooked meal a few times a week!
