My friend (black) thinks that if a white person says the n word (w/ a) and the black ppl around them don’t care then it’s okay. I (white) disagree. I asked if a video got leaked of someone using the er vs a if she’d be upset. She said a no, but er yes.

you can disagree but as white people we don’t get to decide what is okay and what isn’t

This 👆It just goes to show you that black ppl aren’t a monolith w/ the word, and that she has her own reasons. I’m black and get uncomfortable with nonblack people using either version of n word. I can see why she’d only be upset with ppl using it with hard “er” tho, because it gives off a completely different vibe than a soft “a”

Hi, to clarify I don’t think I have the final say. Two of my friends who are both black women were arguing over the topic. One felt it’s okay in certain situations and the other felt it’s never okay. I stayed out of the convo until directly asked by both what I think as a white person. While I explained my pov out more I was ultimately agreeing with my friend who said it’s not appropriate ever. Our other friend got upset and said we were ganging up on her and she stormed out.
