What’s crazy is my old vet charged $50 for a heart-worm test and my new vet doesn’t charge at all. Love being exploited

I’ve had vets jump to sedation for basic vitals without asking first (sedation is expensive as fuck and often unnecessary) and one tried to lie and convince me that my boy cat (the third I’ve ever owned) had fleas and ear mites. I had to treat two other cats on my own for those and I know what it looks like, he never had fleas or mites.

Yup same thing happened to me. Hundreds for a blood test @old vet and the new vet is so much cheaper and has better attention to detail

Started taking my dog to the vet at the humane society and everything is 4x cheaper. Like hold on.

i took a little one to an after hours vet and they wanted 600 for an xray, took him to my primary vet in the morning and they wanted 120, some vets are just too expensive. i hate it.

that’s a typical price for a private practice heart worm test? not saying vets aren’t expensive asf but it’s completely normal for them to charge for bloodwork

Luckily I’ve educated myself and found a vet who walks me through every individual charge and procedure before they do anything. That was the difference between a $1.2k vet bill and a $180 bill last time I went bc my cat was throwing up. I’m also over vets who call my cat vicious when she just squirms and yells a lot if I’m not in the room, or they’re not being gentle with her. Some vets unfortunately forget that pets are family too and deserve kindhearted care

Also I don’t know if this is just a thing in my area but all the vets nowadays seem to want me to leave my dog at the vet and come back like 5 hours?? Like no?? I get it’s convenient for some ppl but I am not leaving my reactive dog alone with yall for 5 hours to sit in a nasty kennel 😭

Unless they have to take my pet back for surgery or some other invasive, hours long procedure I am NOT leaving my baby alone in a scary place with scary people and scary animals 😭 my happy ass will sit in that waiting room with my cat all day until it’s our turn to be seen

So how does it make sense that the small vet with one doctor run out of a home converted to vet charges nothing extra, but the big time vet with 4 doctors (who have done malpractice on my animals) charges insane prices. They also sold me the same flea medication for significantly cheaper

Yeah but $600 is an absurd amount to charge. All vets in my area are closed on the weekends so if your animal gets hurt on a Friday night it’s either let them die or pay a $600 fee just to be seen. It’s honestly shameful. Vets take advantage and they don’t care
