Oh my god I truly love it. The weather is so nice for most of the year and I can always do stuff outside, I’m a very outdoorsy person. It does kinda suck because my extended family lives on the mainland and because it’s Hawaii flying to and from can be expensive. It also kinda sucks because there are spots that are super touristy and quite a few tourists have no respect for the island

Honestly I was taken there once as a kid but I’m super hesitant to go there as an adult bc I’ve read so much about the negative impacts of tourism. My friend really wants to go there bc she’s craving something tropical and she won’t leave the country on her HB1 visa so I’ve been pushing Puerto Rico but she’s not feeling it bc she doesn’t speak Spanish. Wdyt? Is there a good way to do it? I hate settler colonialism and I know the history is fucked there

I personally think that as long as you treat the island and the locals with respect and dignity than it is ok to visit Hawaii. I think it’s like visiting any country really, go to respect the place and the people. I feel as though people tend to ignore that because it is “part of America” therefore they can act like it’s bumfuck Idaho. Truly if you respect the place and the people, most locals don’t mind too too much. Some businesses do thrive better with tourists
