Like their religion is literally based on “fearing the lord”. Fear?? Out of all words used to describe the relationship between an individual and a higher being, it’s fear? how does that sound inviting at all

In a christian context “fear the Lord” is generally SUPPOSED to mean reverence or awe not literal fear. But that isn’t the way it usually plays out when people use actual fear as a means of control 🙃

Was a Christian for 20 years and I’d never admit it but I feared God and hell a lot more than I ever loved him

Him and Santa sounded the same the older I got. “He knows when you’ve been sleeping, he knows when you’re awake. He knows when you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake.” Like idk, sounds more haunting that inviting

Omg yes! I saw this correlation bit ago and you reminded me. Definitely more creepy than inviting

I personally switch up between not believing and believing there is a higher power, but if you love me as your “child” why should I have to fear you?

He has killed the whole world and then has his angel kill the first borns and then plenty of his children and then says thou shall not kill.. and if you simply do not believe in and follow me suffer for eternity. so I think there is plenty to fear and his love doesn’t make sense

Yeah I know. I hope there’s a heaven for the fact of I hope I get to see people I’ve loved, and I also can’t wrap my head around living a shitty life and then just dispersing into nothing after death. But yeah, reading the Bible in various versions as an adult definitely made me just go “sounds fishy, man.”

Yeah of me wants a Heaven but also if the whole thing is real I wouldn’t be there anyways and even if I was, knowing so many people were suffering in hell for this would make me think god is just as evil as satan and I’m just being rewarded for being a follower or something

I Hope there is some kind of Heaven that does not follow what we think Heaven and hell is

Yeah see I’m evil as shit cause I hope there’s a hell, but I already know if I saw someone I thought was clearly undeserving of heaven (like murderers and shit) I’d just walk downstairs cause what the fuck was I being good for☠️???

Yes exactly! That’s how it was intended to be read but instead it’s like “strike the fear of god” and I’m like wtf?
