For April and May I am planning on having my students grow their own flower. What flowers would be best to use for this? They will be planted in something pretty small as I have a lot of students and little space.
how old are they? brassica rappa brings in an interesting conversation about artifical selection because that one plant can create mustard seeds, kale, spinach, and more i cant remember right now

I personally think Zinnias since they’re one of the easiest flowers to grow, but also the wide range of colors would be fascinating for children.

it’s a fun way to bring in science standards if theyre old enough

They are 5th grade so they are starting to understand science. My main reason for wanting to have them grow a plant is because I want to teach them about photosynthesis and how plants use their leaves to get food. It will also hopefully help with some responsibility

I’d also add in a section of their growing to do the whole scientific hypothesis thing where they guess what color they will be, height, width and what not as well. This could be such a great science lab!
