I’ve mostly seen wanting to not be fat framed as not wanting to inconvenience others from your own bad decisions- like people being horrified of being obese to the point of your rolls touching others on planes or at sports games because you spill into other seats. I can totally see how some people would just be afraid of any fat at all though, that shit is wacky
Well it’s not necessarily their own bad decisions, obesity is a complex issue that unfortunately gets flattened by popular discourse. But I also notice that when the topic of fat comes up, people automatically imagine someone on the extreme end of the spectrum, whereas there are a lot of people in the middle who are affected by the stigma but who don’t have the issues you described (I didn’t downvote you btw, js bc I don’t want you to feel like I’m attacking you)
And by obesity being a complex issue, I mean that it’s highly related to socioeconomic status, access to affordable fresh food and walkable cities, car-dependent infrastructure, trauma (becoming obese can quite literally be a trauma response to childhood SA for example, please look this up before you dispute), gut microbiome, pollution (nonstick PFAS chemicals disrupt our metabolisms), hand so many other factors
totally agree there are a lot of factors, I thought I specified that I was talking about what I see other people say about it and the general opinions I’ve been around but I might not have been obvious! But I feel like it’s also kind of clear that im talking about people who can change that kind of thing by making better decisions since I addressed that’s specifically why they are taking care of their bodies - because obvi they have that choice
