If they are rad fems, then yah that doesn’t surprise me. But a lot of people have a hard time respecting people apart of abrahamic religions specifically because of how bigoted and destructive they are. That not even factoring the colonization part

there’s a difference between hating islam the religion and hating muslims as a group. i’ve seen people calling all muslims rapists and terrorists and trying to justify it as “feminist”. and they’ll say it’s because islam is homophobic and then in the next tweet they’ll call gay men pedophiles and trans women males. i just have a hard time believing these people are genuinely interested in criticizing the religion

The issue is every bit of criticism of Islam is often labeled as “Islamaphobic” and it’s weird bc Islam is just as bad as Christianity. Doesn’t give people the right to be racist, though.

yeah i agree, but we have to be honest about the number of people today who are using structural criticism of the religion as an excuse to be racist, and not even being particularly subtle about it. it’s a lot, maybe not as common on here, but extremely common on other platforms

Unfortunately people tend to do that when POC are involved. Islam shouldn’t be tolerated but that doesn’t give anyone a pass to hate on brown folks, as they were often subjected and forced to convert. It’s hard to deconstruct when your family has been practicing a religion that was forced upon them for 100s of years.

As a Christian, Christianity bashing in America is completely different because Christianity was historically the dominant culture and still controls much of what goes on here.

My family is from Sicily which experienced both Christian and Islamic colonization. In American sure, I can’t deny that. But America isn’t the whole world. And the rise in conservatism around the world is linked to the increase in religion, specifically Abrahamic ones

As an nyc-er who voted for Mamdani the whole sharia implementation is bs. That shit is never going to happen especially considering the current status of our government. But in places that faced Islamic colonization it’s different. You can’t deny that both Islamic and Christian colonization helped wipe out the indigenous Amazigh culture in North Africa, and many other indigenous cultures around the world

I am jewish, and i am speaking from my experience. It was never forced on us, and orthodox ideology is a LOT worse than conservative ideology
