my heart breaks because now i fear she’s going to regress in all of her progress. i found out from another aide in the classroom i used to be in that 3 different aides tried to communicate with my former student and couldn’t. she would only use her aac with me. why does the education system do this.
i know every school/system is different, but my coworkers daughter has a similar situation with one of her students and the students family told the school that she is the child’s official aide and i believe they have honored that. do you think that might be an option for you? i’m not sure how involved the family is but there may be a way you can fight this
i was starting from ground zero. her school in india didn’t teach her anything, all she did was arts and crafts all day. her family moved to the usa in 2022-ish, and transferred to my school in november. her family doesn’t speak english at home, she had no english background, and just began using an aac device. i’ve been working with her on identifying letters, writing each letter, number identification, how to use her aac, and when she finally got comfortable with me, i got moved. it’s sad
