Realizing my dog may have dementia but I don’t have the funds to spend $3-$10k for imaging and treatment so I kinda just can’t think abt it too much

managing symptoms is all your vet could do anyways sadly, i’d look into supplements for senior dogs and enrichment tools to ease anxiety if they’re showing signs of confusion or disorientation :(

At night he’s showing signs that resemble sundowning. Increased aggression & irritability, he’s having more trouble recognizing us esp at night, his temperament is completely different than it has been all of his life, an increase in pacing around. He’s a 9yr old German shepherd so I know he’s on borrowed time esp with how large he is. All they really could do is make him comfortable. Anxiety meds, nighttime sedation to help the confusion & aggression. Supplements to try and slow progression

Oh his im so sorry. That seems so young. My dog who is about 13-14 shows signs of that anxiety too, but we think she’s deaf now. What medicine is he on? We use carprofuen? For our dog and it helps with joints and anxiety.

German Shepherds, esp ones of his size (I’m 5’6 and his head is at my waist when he’s standing) have a life expectancy of about 7-10 years. He’s not currently on any meds since his vet wants imaging first and I’m trying to find a vet who will give him something to chill him out without an MRI

Yeah! We keep most of our lights on until bed time. We’ve started having him sleep in a crate since he’s started having aggression issues
