You are right and people won’t like this but you are absolutely right.

the original purpose of marriage is selling women as property, and religion reinforces that

and tbh it doesn’t matter if it was or not bc that’s how it’s been used for literally hundreds of years. and every religious person in these comments not acknowledging that and instead acting like you PERSONALLY said they could no longer believe in god or w/e is soooooo incredibly telling

Women were already controlled when most major religions were created

Counter point: men need to be controlled, and so do women. Humans as a whole, when left without guidance, tend to not go well.

and the belief in a higher power condoning their treatment perpetuates it

Although I do think far too many women are oppressed today with the use of Islam

even in christianity women are told to be subservient to men

Acting like the men didn’t believe in the same exact higher power and let it control their actions too 💀

Or did the millions of men who died in religious wars die pretending to believe in something

the control should not come from some invisible entity that people worship and donate to institutions that facilitate so many harmful programs

it controlled everyone’s actions that’s my whole point it allowed men to oppress women and force women to think they needed to accept ut

You said “meant” to control women. While yes religion can be used to control women that wasn’t the intent at its creation

On the first part, why not? (Obv I agree that institutions shouldn’t facilitate harm)

it’s too easy to manipulate things like an entity people just believe in the bible has been rewritten at least hundreds of times

Also at the end of the day following a religion is a choice unless forced upon you by someone else. That would make the forcer the one at fault not the religion. Unless the religion demands forcing it on others

Tell me how she is absolutely right? Religions were not at all created with the intent to control women. Both Christian and Judaisms original followers gained nothing for believing in it and died doing so. Although you could make a good argument for Islam since their prophet gained everything

Only Islam…

The history of atheist states such as the USSR and Maoist china, which entirely visible and non-theistic power structures, does not seem to indicate that it is effective at preventing corruption by any means. Source for the Bible rewrite please, thats a massive claim

Two things can be true at once. Yeah, religious institutions do a lot of good by the means of charity and giving people hope. But they can also spit out things like conversion therapy. And as someone who was raised catholic, it did so much damage to my psyche in regard to death anxiety. The idea of going to hell for one small sin that I might not be aware of made me cry myself to sleep often as a kid

most of their charities are mission trips that are really just them, forcing their religion onto impoverished communities without providing actual humanitarian help
