What is considered obese in indoor cats? They said mine was obese but she sprints around my place like an Olympic athlete

Look up a body condition score chart and how to check your cat. That is a bigger indicator of obesity than just a number on a scale. I work at a vet clinic and that is usually what we go by to determine if a pet is at a healthy weight or not

They being who, a vet? Physical activity doesn’t necessarily mean a cat isn’t overweight, there are levels to it. How much does your cat weigh and what breed?

trust if she's overweight, she can most likely eat less, discuss with a vet how much/ if she needs diet food. yes she'll be annoyed and prob meow at u a lot but it's in hers and ur best interest to keep her at a consistent healthy weight

Yes a vet. She’s a domestic shorthair. 13lbs and she’s only chunky on her belly

13lbs is just on the verge of a problem imo, and cats need fat in their bellies anyway to protect and support their spines. My domestic shorthairs are both around 10 lbs which is generally considered healthy. I’d trust the vet and maybe cut back a little on how much you’re feeding her but otherwise it sounds like she’s partially able to maintain a healthy weight

I feed her 2/3 of a cup for dry food but I just don’t want her to feel like she’s starving if I feed her less than that

I get it, but cats don’t need as much food as you’d think, especially if it’s causing weight gain. Plus, she’s probably going to act starved regardless because that’s how cats are lol

That’s what had me confused. When I compared her to the chart and felt for her ribs she looked more on the overweight side but they marked her as obese
