the environmental impact of data centers has existed longgg before machine learning was called ai and definitely existed before the advent of generative ai in mainstream culture

We had an assignment in film class where we could use Ai to make something and I’m like hell to the no I will take a bad grade with pride because at least I know I earned it and I can learn what to do better something Ai can’t do

That mentality is what caused my mom to get let go from her job (graphic design) Either stay up with the times or get left behind, it’s unfortunate but the reality

that’s true but that doesn’t make the current gen ai landscape any less problematic. i’m in cybersec so i can’t escape ai and need to still use it begrudgingly but i’m trying to get into the policy/governance side of things too so we can at least advocate for more responsible use

100% but my point was more the issue is with the tech industry as a whole and ai is just another tool that furthers the consolidation of power, irresponsible use of resources, and exploitation of workers in the tech industry
