do snowflakes actually form large enough to see with just your eye. also what do people mean when they say snow isnt good for building, like it doesnt clump? why doesnt it clump

snowflakes can be as big as a grain of rice! so definitely visible when you look closely. snow also has a different density depending on the weather conditions, and that turns snow from powdery and wet (bad for keeping a shape) to denser and harder (good for keeping a shape). think of it like bread dough; until you add enough flour to it, it won’t hold its shape well and will just go where it goes, but once you add enough you can mould it and shape it and it’ll stay like that way

like every few years we get some snow but it always clumps and ive never seen a big snowflake

Well yes, so the formation of snow depends on the temperature and the humidity. So powdery snow (won’t clump/light/fluffy) is very cold low humidity. Sticky snow forms around 32F and is ideal for building cause it’s already slightly melted and that thin layer makes clumping easy
