I didn’t get fired but they did promote a male, fresh college grad with my same degree, been here 3 months, I’ve been here almost a year, to my level and assigned him to some projects I was never asked to participate in. Corporate sexism?

I wouldn’t scream & shout corporate sexism until you know a bit more about his background. There is a chance he has more experience than you regardless if yall both have the same degree and both were fresh outta school

I’m at the same position I was hired for

how much experience did you have at that point?

I was also fresh out of college, I don’t have a ton of work experience, mostly internships for unrelated things. I’m not sure what experience this person has. We both have a BS in biology and this is a chem lab.

so you’re mad that at the time you both got hired, you had similar qualifications and he got hired on at a lower level than you did?

ok let me clarify: when he was hired, the lower position is all we had open. With the staffing changes, he was promoted to my same level. All totally okay, but on top of that they’re having him work on projects at a more complicated part of the lab and they never asked me to participate in that DESPITE having worked here longer than he has at a higher organizational level, only citing he does a good job at his position and his bachelors degree which is the same as mine.

is your workload already full with your other projects? maybe he did some sort of specialization into that other work?

no, I only run tests. I’m not doing any projects. And I doubt he did since his degree is in biology… and it’s a chromatography lab (completely doxing myself atp 💀)

ok sure but you have to understand how insanely sus this looks from my perspective becuase I’m even way over qualified for this role in the first place. The fact that they cited him having a bachelors in biology and doing well at his role (a rank below me and for only a few months)… it’s wild.

don’t you and him have about the same qualifications?

Oh definitely. Don’t sweep it under the rug, but don’t jump to conclusions either:) hopefully sexism ISNT the case but you never know

It seems like it from my perspective, I don’t have his resume in front of me, but at this job it seems like they prioritize specific qualities over education IDK because again we’re both overqualified for our roles having a BS
