People who say that ANY (and I’m not just talking about Christianity) abrahamic religion is “feminist” is either A. Brainwashed or B. A pathological liar. I’m sick of their fucking bullshit, predatory rhetoric

not to hop on your post and drag it off topic but the amount of women who think they’re feminist versus actual feminists is a big gap, religious or non religious I know everyone likes to point fingers but I’ve come to see that as I get older

As someone who has studied the Christian Catholic faith for a while, I think it used to be a lot more feminist than it is today, they even had women priests, but over time it was corrupted and turned into what it is now

Wait wait can you please elaborate? Cause I love a feminist reading of the Bible, as in how can we follow the main ideas while acknowledging that this wss written by men who didn’t respect women, but I def agree that the Bible itself is full of misogyny

You can reframe the bible, Quran, and Torah in as many ways as you want but it doesn’t change the fact that Abrahamic theology is just flat out misogynistic, and has harmed not only women, but religious/ethnic minorities and queer people. I just think it’s disingenuous when people say stuff like “Islam is feminist” or like “Christianity is the best religion for women” because not only currently, but also historically speaking, abrahamic religions have always been oppressive towards women

Ohhh yeah I agree entirely!! My religion prof used to do women and gender studies and the way she offers alternate explanations has really helped me feel like I can take big ideas from the Bible while acknowledging all the harm it does. She does say “again, do not do what the people in the __ were doing” like 50 times per class I love her

Totally agree. I’m not shaming anyone or claiming that religious women aren’t/can’t be feminist, I just really don’t like misleading people into a misogynistic religion under the guise of “women’s rights”, it’s incredibly predatory

Omg l would love to take a religion class with a prof like that 😭!! My bsf went to a Christian school for track and field and she had to take a class like that. She thought they were going to be preachy but her prof was just like yours and she loved it! I love to study religion specifically abrahamic ones, which is why I have the opinions I have. Like I got beef but they are SO interesting 😭

She’s genuinely the reason I’m minoring in religion, I love love love this academic and analytical view especially because I (generally) agree with the big points in a lot of Abrahamic religions so it’s so nice learning how I can learn from what they were trying to say. It’s so powerful having someone acknowledge the texts were written by men in a specific time period that influenced them! Also she drops bangers like “the best way to humiliate a man is to treat him like a woman”
