I didn’t grow up broke broke but we had fend for yourself night at least once a week bc my mom didn’t feel like cooking😭

same, we called it “choose your own dinner night” in my house

basically just find something to eat for yourself instead of having a meal made. for us it was usually if parents were busy or not everyone was home at the same time, or if grocery shopping needed to happen soon - everyone just found something that appealed to them and ate when they felt like it
