I have plans with my boyfriend they aren’t huge plans but my brother just texted me his ex texted him ... I feel guilty doing anything with my life knowing he’s feeling this way. Is this my responsibility? I think it is.

‘I feel guilty doing anything with my life knowing he’s feeling this way’ girl go have fun with ur bf 😭 ur brother needs to work through his things and u can always talk to him after, but this doesn’t seem worth changing ur schedule and not protecting ur own peace- like take care of urself and respect urself plz 😭

It is not your responsibility to completely walk your brother through this. I would say it is a little bit of your responsibility to guide him to seeing a therapist and many colleges will at least have a few free appointments available. It should never be someone’s responsibility to deal fully with someone’s feelings of inferiority to this extent because they can easily wear off on others

Girl it is absolutely fucking not 😭 idk how yalls relationship is but you are never responsible for managing someone else’s feelings, even if they’re your family. The more you try to take on other people’s baggage that you cannot control, the more unhappy you’ll be in the long run. Go on your damn date fam

Like… hes just venting on how sad his life is in comparison, which sucks, but is something he has to reflect on and then change , and is overall not worth u cancelling ur date to text and feel bad about- maybe text him and say ur busy now but can help tomorrow or that u have plans (which u do!!)

His ex texting him isn’t some huge thing to change ur plans over… it feels harsh but if you’re usually accommodating u should be fine-

If you being happy with your boyfriend makes him more sad, that is a him issue for being sad when others are happy and he needs to work it out with a professional and maybe see if he has depression
