a good alternative is asking to volunteer at an animal shelter like you could train to do dog enrichment or dog walking for them! i don’t mean to sound rude but it doesn’t seem fair for the dog for time management + you’d have to get someone to let them out all the time & make sure they’re getting proper exercise/enrichment

Definitely don’t. My friend who has a dog can never do anything with us because she has to walk it. Also imagine having the worst day of your life, it’s pouring outside, and you still have to walk a dog before you can relax

i miss having a dog so bad tho, it’s been almost two years since we lost our family dog and it feels like a part of me is missing if that makes sense. i was so used to putting him first and making him my world 😖

i'm glad u realize u 100% cannot give a dog the care it needs

However I will always vouch for cats as an alternative

This is such a good suggestion! There are also programs a lot of shelters do where you can keep a dog overnight. They usually do that around Valentine’s Day in my city.

she seems like she’s super busy and not at home period, that’s not fair for cats either. yes, they can use a litter box but they’d be alone all day for x amount of hours. they need love & mental stimulation too.

you can also join animal groups on facebook or try dog sitting/dog walking for people + you’d get paid for it as well !!

yes i agree. but thing thing is, when i get a 9-5, i feel like it’ll always be this situation. it’s like… do i have to wait till im married to finally get a dog again? 🥲

She seems to have a similar schedule as my husband and I, and our cats get plenty of stimulation and attention with that. But if it’s every day of the week that she’s out all day then yeah, that’s valid.

We also have two cats who are the next step behind a bonded pair, so they play with each other on their own all day anyway. I could see them getting lonely and under stimulated if they didn’t have each other in that situation

u could get two cats who could entertain eachother when ur gone during the days if u have the $$ to afford them

if u want it to be well behaved then yes. otherwise you'll end up with a bored and pent up full of energy dog. unless u can afford doggy daycare or a pet walker daily

And keep in mind that “affording” them doesn’t just mean the adoption cost and basic necessities. I’ve had to drop $1k unplanned at the emergency vet because shit happens, and cats are basically perpetual toddlers.

i guess it’s random. there will be weeks where i get home at like 4 and chill all evening. it’s just the randomness of my schedule/routine that has me reconsidering.

If you’re unsure, I’d probably recommend not getting a pet beyond like some fish (in a properly setup and sized tank obviously)
