The first victim of any type of automobile accident was a woman and yet they’re only getting to this now 🙃

It’ll help me I guess when wanting a new car since I’m short. Do they think we’re all short when driving or something 😭

let’s not even talk about the fact that women weren’t included in clinical trials until the 90s 🫩

Dang, don’t get me wrong, I’m 4’11 and 110 so that’s close to me…but isn’t the average 5’4 for ladies? 😭 I want the average height ladies to be okay, too!

because women are more likely to die in car crashes that men even though we’re better drivers

Just because we can drive doesn’t mean others can, it’s like saying “I’m healthy I don’t need cancer screening because there’s no chance it’ll kill me”

Women are much more likely to be seriously injured or die in car accidents compared to men, including as passengers and as drivers. Test dummies are extremely sophisticated to represent real humans, but they’ve previously only been designed to represent males. Females are biologically different and will experience a crash differently. This allows car designers to start actually making changes that will save women’s lives.

this is like saying we don't need research on how cancer affects women just to feel validated

yes others but also even people who can drive well have bad days or lapses in judgement or make mistakes. we're all human, and it only takes one time of misjudging how fast someone's going or how close they are or forgetting to check your blind spot or even god forbid having a medical emergency while driving- it only takes one time, with just the wrong circumstances, for you to be in a horrible accident. being a good driver is not an end all be all preventative against potentially fatal crashes

Cars are not built for short drivers or afab bodies. Women ARE shorter on avg but no they’re not testing short dummies because they think all women are short it’s because they literally need the info because it has not been paid attention to until now

It’s because our organs and bones are different and seat belt placements weren’t designed to keep us safe

☝️ they need more data on smaller riders in general. same with young adults / teens. this dummy covers a lot of bases and that's a good thing

Because the seatbelt doesn’t sit properly on women do to our breasts. Did you know that not only is a woman more likely to die in a non fatal accident because of lack of testing compared to a man, but a woman is more likely to be decapitated by the seatbelt because it rests on our necks

are our bones different? i thought it was just our organs that were different

Yes. Our pelvis is different and more wide, male bones are more dense, and our skulls are different. This is how we can ID skeletal remains to be male or female

Yea I’m 5ft exactly and have short legs. I have to have the seat as far as it can go forward to reach the pedals or else I need to slump lower in my chair to try to reach, making it hard to see. My knees literally touch the wheel and bottom of the dash cause I’m so close If I get in a car accident the impact is going straight into my legs and possibly my stomach. I’ll either die, break or lose one or both of my legs, or become paralyzed.

Considering that male crash test dummies that have existed are who are primarily 5’9 and around 170 pounds, u think it’s probably good to have one for smaller women early on since that’s a bigger difference from what they’ve had so far, but they need to make female crash test dummies in more varied sizes after this
