Anything but the depo shot. That’s the only one that causes weight gain. Do you have any other side effects that you’re hoping to have or not have?

Me personally I am on Syeda, I couldn’t 100% be confident it caused me to gain bc I started when I left HS and that meant no more sports and I didn’t work out. Plus dorm food was not the best under tons of stress and overall inflammation. I stopped bc I couldn’t handle a daily pill and also started working out months after. But starting again I haven’t noticed much difference

Everyone’s body is different. Consult with your doctor about this.

weight gain is the biggest one for sure—i’m very comfortable in my body as it is now and am getting into working out so i want to maintain where im at. I know some cause mental health struggles as well but I have good management on that, and as far as other side effects I can’t really think of any

this is true!! i was merely looking for some advice as well because i know many people advise against many such as the depo shot and wanted to know similar experiences before i went into something im not entirely sure about yet

Mental health is a bit more individual and harder to predict. Do you know where in your cycle you feel best or worse?

i feel the worst right before i start but im going to therapy and have a great support group regardless so it’s not my biggest concern!

That’s your late in your luteal phase, when progesterone is dominant but all reproductive hormones are dipping. To be far away from that state, you’ll likely want to start with a combo method, which contains estrogen and progesterone. Your options would be any combo pill, a patch, or a ring.

wait perfect, thank you so much. so you’re recommending something that’s little hormonal? because that’s definitely along the lines of what i was thinking

Less hormones isn’t always better. Less hormones is what you feel right before your period. Your body needs hormones to function. There are many doses of combo methods. Estrogen can fluctuate from .2mcg to .5 and there are many different progestins with different potencies and androgenic levels. I’m saying you should try something with estrogen at any dose and go from there.

i’m so sorry i misunderstood lol, thank you so much for all this information. i’m totally lost when it comes to all of this to where i didn’t even know how to start talking about it with my doctor

I 100% recommend getting your hormones and blood tested beforehand as a baseline for where you’re currently at right now before taking anything and if you see some side effects ask for tests again. Most drs won’t but if you explain that you want too for your own self and curiosity they can help on that. It can also help determine what could be best for you if smth goes sideways. All bodies will react differently, non/hormonal work in their own ways, effects the whole body not just the uterus
