I didn't like No Man's Sky because it lacked direction so I'm not comparing it unfavorable there, but I did find Starfield quite underwhelming. I agree that people compared them too much in general

They advertised themself as a game with plenty to explore with a full Bethesda story. What we got was barely any reason to explore in a way which was more difficult than NMS, and a story which (beyond some cool ideas) was absolutely underwhelming.
