It’s not a monopoly tho, there’s the epic games store, GOG, Microsoft store, etc. I agree with your point tho, steam is so much better than their competitors that it’s easy to think they have a monopoly

Steam is amazing, many games are only present on their platform... and I believe they host the majority of pc players. If they raise prices, people have places to go though, as long as the developers are willing to migrate. And developers are the ones that set the sale price... and Steam requires that they have the cheapest(or equal) price to any other store.

Basically, it's massive, it's hard to ignore, and it places the burden of price on developers so you will never find a better deal(unless a game has a giveaway on like Epic and GOG)
