Best way to make friends when you live off campus? Not interested in a sorority though. I’ve only ever done online classes, do the people next to you want to yap or no?

I also lived off campus and it was a bit harder to make friends but not impossible. Some people you sit next to will want to chat and some others won’t, you kind of have to gauge their reactions. One of my closest friends I met in a gen-ed class!

Summer school and class tutoring sessions provided a lot of good campus friends due to the small class sizes. Plus you get to know some professors pretty well, who can help you with school and recs. Outside of classes try some of the recreational clubs, intramural sports, or community service.

Another idea is to join a professional organization like toastmasters or a professional fraternity tied to your major. The professional fraternities are coed and are vastly different from sorority life. It’s a great way to network and build a community. I pledged a professional fraternity while living off campus, which was fun since my place became a hangout place for our new member class to watch movies, play board games, and other shenanigans
