I haven’t updated this fic in 5 years and I still got loyal mfers hunting me down in unrelated subredditsSometimes I lay awake at night and think to myself “one day, when the world finally sees the destruction of capitalism and empire and we see liberation for all, then I will finally let myself sit back down at my computer and get back to work on all those fics left unfinished over the years” 🥲
Im very proud of my work but I covered the character names cuz in the past when Ive shared the fandom and ship in here Ive gotten some judgmental reactions and I kinda get why, there’s nothing problematic about it imo, it’s just something almost no one realizes there’s a legit fandom for and it’s a piece of media a lot of people feel is sacred and I agree I def feel like my work honors it, just most people here at least don’t wanna give it a chance from fandom name alone
Oh yea absolutely for sure. I am nothing if not a resistance writer. Writing journals as young as I can remember filled with testimony about my father’s abuse and how good justice would feel, writing in fiction and fanfiction stories of adventure and fantasy and yearning for the world and escape from abuse and authority and about queer identity and being a misfit, to now writing mostly non fiction and commentary and poetry about politics and history and community etc. It is who I am at my core.
Also so fucking real I was feeling real bad for not mentioning tumblr lol I am ashamed to admit I was never apart of superwholock 🫣 (I have been in soooo many other fandoms tho so I knew enough) I’m so sorry hahaha BUT I do remember where I was and what I was doing on destiel day lol aka also the day everyone thought Putin was assassinated
and yeah the resistance writing is so real. like,,, and who’s going to argue (several people actually) if i put a good amount of anti colonial and anti capital points (to a varying degree of explicitity) in most of my fics. it’s my playground and my guys Certainly don’t really follow laws in cannon, nevermind in My sandbox
Fs and I think it’s profoundly anti colonial, anti capitalist, and revolutionary to just create art for the sake of it in of itself period. To engage in creation just for the joy and for the beauty of entertaining and sharing that imagination, that’s a deep act of resistance imo especially when that imagination breaks out of the confines of the systems we exist under to imagine better world and other possibilities.
for sure! ive loved fanfiction for so long but as i’ve learned more about resistance and radical praxis it’s just become even more valuable to me. (even if i have to increasingly suspend reality when most people are writing about cops, jail, court system, etc). i think there’s also something important about being able to imagine, create, and share a world built differently than our own
and the availability of it, for free to pretty much anyone is so cool too because someone could just randomly come across an idea or concept that they wouldnt otherwise and kickstarts a kind of reflection. plus, sharing anti colonial and capital ideals in ways that don’t explicitly name them can also make people more receptive to them which is so cool
