i just learned about squidgeworld and recommend any readers/writers to check it out! it has the same format as ao3, only more filtering and does NOT allow ai. there's not as many fics, but with ao3 being how it has been, i hope it'll get utilized more

Same format is putting it lightly it’s a complete rip of the UI Honestly the vibes are way off to me personally No AI is good and all but it is legit just AO3 but they stole the ENTIRE UI which rubs me the wrong way. Like we’re taking about not stealing with AI usage and we promote moving to a site that’s stealing AO3s whole set up??? Also I didn’t see any extra filtering where was it located?

you don't need an account to read (most?) fics, and i was able to make an account instantly if any authors are interested in uploading their fics to it as an online backup

It’s an option but they do call written works involving fictional characters “”kiddie porn”” which is a HUGE no for me personally

that's fair. my understanding was that ao3 has an open code source, but i do wish it wasn't a blatant copy. i don't know a lot about how that type of stuff works, i just wanted to let people know there's other options if they so choose. and this is the filtering i was talking about

it’s not stealing it, ao3’d code is open source and they endorse other websites using the code. they even helped squidgeworld open its website in 2020 and squidgeworld itself has been around since 1998. there’s also many more fanfic archives that use the exact same code as ao3 and ao3 supports them using its this is a non issues
