bro what do yall think about the sharing downloaded fics discourse going on rn on twitter??? bc some authors are saying they will be deleting their fics when ao3 is back up bc of it…is it mainly newer ao3 members that have a problem with this?

Regardless of what you or I think I do think if someone doesn’t want their fic shared that should be respected. Personally I don’t care tbh

i personally would be excited to see my fic included in personal archives and i don’t see how that would negatively impact anything with the uploaded work?

Mostly people new to fandom. Largely driven by engagement. They need to take a step back and learn about the history of fanfiction (particular Anne Rice) and then really consider what they’re doing

some of it is “I don’t want it fed to AI” odds are it’s already been fed to AI I know some people have been sharing death threats and that’s insane I think it’s mostly newer people tbh

yeah i agree but there’s nothing they can do now if they didn’t make that known to their audience beforehand since the site is down right? like i keep seeing tweets saying not to share their works but are they just hoping people will stumble across it and know which author and fic it corresponds to? like what’s the solution here because then they’re saying they will be deleting their works when the site comes back but like how were the readers supposed to know i’m confused about it tbh

Tbf I’ve been a member of the site for a while and the thought of people downloading my fics never crossed my mind. This isn’t rly an issue that has a solution since people are not entitled to keep fics up if no longer want them to be public 🤷‍♀️
