I’m sorry but I seriously hate when British authors cannot for the life of them write without using their British phrases, bc it is so out of nowhere for the character. This is Jinx from Arcane speaking… in a world where British people are the topsiders

I don’t agree with you, because I don’t think that an author, of any nationality, should be held to such a standard. I don’t get mad when I see “mum” instead of “mom”. It’s a dialect thing, and we shouldn’t be hating on people for having different ways of speaking and writing in those ways. As a parallel: “I hate when American authors cannot for the life of the write without using their American phrases,” to a FANFICTION in a FANTASY setting is crazy to me, sorry.

I’m sure British ppl feel the same way about British characters in fanfic using American slang…

Having Jinx say “bugger off.” Like sure there’s something to be said for the creative liberties of fanfiction, but this is so ooc to me you might as well just MAKE an arcane oc. If there was an artistic reason to have her speak this way (like maybe a Topsider Jinx Au?) then this would make sense to me

It was probably just a way to make the character more relatable on a personal level to the author.

Again, having characters that are OOC doesn’t matter bc fanfic is for free 😭. They are not getting paid and shouldn’t be held to the same standard as canon. They do it for the people and that’s it. Don’t like don’t read.

Knowing her voice actress is British, when I read this my brain just kept hearing her speak with the accent as I continued so it was a bit funny ngl

And I’m not saying your preferences are inherently wrong, I’m just saying that pointing out THAT specific author to put all your hate on publicly is kinda a shitty move. Like, you can really discourage authors and make them stop writing by saying shit like that. Imagine you pouring your soul into a fic, and someone online posts something like this about your writing.
