the picture isn’t fully correct though. i think fiction DOES affect reality, but not in the way that antis think. it can help you look for patterns, and reinforce ideas you ALREADY had.

supposedly catcher in the rye influenced the murder of john lennon but like who the fuck could have known that. most people came away deeply moved and one unhinged person misinterpreted it with terrible consequences, but we can’t really fault salinger can we?
