Right! It’s something I’ve noticed over the years. Especially after recently reading an article on yuri and sexism. And how typically the most comics are going to be M/F then M/M and then quite a lot less of F/F. And the same is for omegaverse (though this is a lot less sampling size) where majority is A/O with less A/A or A/B and maybe a few B/O and basically none of O/O. Which is not necessarily to do with the straightness more so how queerness is viewed as more and less acceptable.

For omegaverse I also only ever see b/o as a side pairing that’s not explored. O/o is rare, but when I do see it it’s usually the central pairing. And also usually smut lmao. A/A is also usually smut in my experience. I have a pet theory that’s it’s because it’s the most gay/taboo pairing, and so it’s more… fetishized is WAY too strong a word, but something like that. And tbc thats not a criticism, god bless smut and our beautiful writers, I just think it’s interesting to note the way it goes

Yes! I’m all for the creation of smut (imo it show the freedom that we have as creators) even if I’ve stopped reading much of it. I agree with you full heartedly about A/A being seen as basically extra gay. I feel sometimes that people got bored with traditional M/M and were like how can we make it gayer. And while not all is fetishized I definitely feel like there’s a good amount of fetishization in the yaoi community.

Like not all is fetishized obviously but its very clear that there is a problem especially on how a lot of M/M relationships in general are depicted in comics. It can be pretty hard to find stories where the top isn’t possessive, abusive, or straight up doesn’t understand consent.

I don’t read much comics, but when I do I see that front and center, and I hate it. I also feel like m/m pairings lean more towards misogyny in one way or another. Not as the fault of it being m/m, but as a consequence of female characters being seen as less important, and also making the ‘bottom’ be like. A woman plus plus

Mhmm a lot of M/M stories especially smut make the bottom basically a female with no boobs and a weenier. And I’ve noticed when writers do big top small petite bottom the characters have a lot less personality to them. I also agree with misogyny being a big problem. You see it all the time in fanfiction where a female character will get absolutely ripped to shreds for falling for one of the male character in the actual canon. And I feel like that shows a lot about the writer themselves because

It shows that they can’t see a man and a woman being friends. The canon love interest has to be an angry (mind my language) jealous bitch because the writer cannot fathom a person who liked someone still being friends after rejection. (Which I can attest that they can be because one of my friends told me he had a crush on me and I said na I’m lesbian leaning aro and we’re still good friends to this day (thou that could also be because he is bi and thus more chill)).
