Could tagging “temporary character death” be enough? Or should I go ahead and update it with an archive warning?

Personally I wouldn’t do tag Mc death because that’s the kind of tag that would make me not read the fic. But other tags would like temp death fake death or even Mc death but not really

The next chapter? No. If it was like several chapters maybe? But if it’s just over an end of chapter cliffhanger it’s not a “real” death. People filtering out MCD are generally trying to avoid the “he’s gone forever and his life will forever be unfinished” angst. This is not that. If you’re worried put in the authors notes some vague statements to make readers doubt that he’s dead.
