Actually I looked it up apparently yaoi got a lot of hate for being a women targeted genre in the beginning as opposed to bara or geikomi that was targeted towards gay men. It was more or less the same debate that some people still keep up about women having an interest in gay relationships and when that can turn into objectification. Either way the term yaoi was used often for fan content in the beginning so it’s more fluid now in English from the influence of fandoms, so yaoi is for everyone!
Yes! You can absolutely write it! Whoever told you that non-women can’t write yaoi is honestly just stupid and not worth your time listening. Though there’s a lot of women, there are also tons of men in fandoms writing gay stuff to their heart’s content and it’s just as awesome. I’ve been around fandoms for like 13 years and never come across people hating on men writing mm content. It’s not normal. I promise 99% people are sane humans about this, and they will love your work! Go on and write!
Thank you I needed that! I have anxiety and it gives me imposter syndrome with this kind of stuff, so I think I just needed to hear that. I haven’t been involved with yaoi/fanfic/fandom for too long so I just hope that one woman was just an outlier. (Although considering the other stuff I’ve encountered with straight women you just never know.) Anyways, thank you again
