have you seen the guy on tiktok who blocked someone on ao3 for commenting that he tagged incorrectly?

ugh that’s mostly what this post was about! I hate that people are coming onto AO3 without bothering to learn how it works

i understand there's a learning curve with fandom and ao3 but he just seemed entitled and confused that people were calling him out. plus there's tons of people who teach others how to use the site, and if you read enough works you have an idea of how to tag in the first place

I’m so glad you brought this up bc the comments are off on that post

the people defending him are why we can't have nice things. there's rules for a reason

Exactly! I remember how confusing it was when I first joined AO3 (which now that I think of it, gods that was so many years ago now lmao!) I had to read to many fics before I fully understood how all the tags worked. It is definitely a learning curve, but what is so great about the community is that people are always willing to help you learn! And they did, they left comments suggesting he fix the tags explaining how and why, and he BLOCKED THEM. Then ranted online thinking he was in the right.

they really are! the AO3 community has rules, the least you could do is learn and take constructive criticism with grace.

it took me years going from wattpad to ao3 and making an official account, let alone posting my own works. but i'm glad i waited until i had a much better idea of how the site worked and what to tag. and even still i always make an authors note to ask people to let me know if my tags are wrong or if i need to add more just incase, for myself and others. i write for myself, but i also want people to actually enjoy their reading experience and properly tagging is what makes it enjoyable for all

i can't imagine taking so much offense and doubling down so hard on simple rules, especially as a newbie. i truly don't think people (including myself) would be so upset if he didn't block them. he's lucky they didn't report imo
