i'm not an author and i was wondering if there's a reason why basically no fics use indents at the start of paragraphs like in traditional novels and instead tend to skip an extra line?

A lot of websites won’t let you. Wattpad will not allow it unless you do it with space marks. Super annoying. I can’t remember if ao3 does or not, pretty sure no

I’m glad they do bc it helps break up the wall of text

Its a website formatting thing, especially for people who write directly in ao3. Pretty sure it doesnt let you and it can mess up the formatting when copying it over from other places like a google doc or what have you.

like this is no worse than extra skipped lines

interesting! i wonder why certain websites won't let you bc it seems to me like a pretty standard thing to do when writing just abt anything. i guess in that case it makes sense to skip a line between paragraphs to make the split clearer

I think the spacing on AO3 is smaller than there

You can do it theres ways around it, a ton of people play with the html for custom formatting but its just usually more trouble than its worth
