this was unexpected so it’s less maintenance and more recovering from what appears to be some kind of cyberattack or security breach

It doesn’t have to be that. It could just be production code that was making a mistake for a while that’s very labor-intensive to clean up. But a cyber attack does appear unusually likely

yes should’ve clarified it is not necessarily a cyberattack just bc it went down unexpectedly! a tweet from ao3status called it a “security incident” so i was just going off that
