Tbh for me it comes back to the punching up/punching down argument. Theres more nuance obviously but I’ve seen the Jesus/judas fics and those don’t bother me, even if they’re somewhat disrespectful

I think it also depends on the person too. I grew up Catholic so I probably wouldn’t be able to write about Jesus or Judas without feeling weird. But I it applies to other myths too. They are still someone’s religion and many myths are historical figures. So for me, I am perfectly fine writing about Greek or Roman myths because I don’t have a religious tie to them but I still treat it as if I did.
