At one point they didn’t understand that most of our “I can’t live without AO3” dramatic posts were exaggerated and something that happens every time there’s maintenance scheduled or otherwise. Idk if this is who I think they just really don’t like that we’re not turning to their supposed expertise to help because we don’t know code (they say they’re a developer).
It’s called “Daily Equestria Life With Monster Girl.” It’s about 720k words long. I went in expecting some silly little “centaur goes to equestria” shit What i got was a masterfully written, deeply cutting deconstruction of the american media empire that predicted january sixth.
And crucially, a BIG PART of why it’s not a fluke is that the author is weaving fucking webs. There’s a line in this fic. It reads “I looked down and I saw bodies outside the gates.” Without the five hundred thousand words of buildup, i wouldn’t have chucked my phone across the room in shock. And no, I’m not exaggerating. Five hundred thousand words of buildup for one line.
And this is where we must bring capitalism into the equation, because this author’s works are impossible. In a capitalist environment, the only thing that matters is the profit margin. And it takes a LOT OF FUCKIN PAPER to print 700k words, yes? Most publishing houses won’t do anything over 100k. Some will go up to 130k. But anything beyond that and the profit margin is at risk, so it doesn’t get printed
Fanfiction is the LITERAL ONLY MEDIUM OF LITERATURE where something 720k words long can even EXIST, and this leads to some absolutely wild shit! and i really want to talk about that! holy fuck amethyst i REALLY WANNA DIG INTO THAT! but it feels like every community for fanfiction is focused on ships and tags and dead dove do not eat and ao3 is down again and slowburns and etc
I think I have the gist. Yeah this community is more focused on how many of us use fics as a form of escapism and make jokes that only make sense in fanfiction culture. Honestly I don’t think you’re gonna get the kind of discussion you want online, only in real life. Something about having that nuanced and complex of a conversation gets lost in translation on a digital landscape.
Well I’m starting to think that the person who blocked me just deleted all of their side of the conversation, unblocked me, and is now being petty in a way I can’t call out. Don’t really have much proof but I do know their style of comments are showing up again and this isn’t the first time someone thought downvoting and reporting random things would be “revenge”. Honestly as long as they’re not crashing out on me again it doesn’t bother me.
