If you are a man or don’t have strict parents you DONT get to comment on why I don’t “fight back” against my parents more. Bc you don’t know the psychological and emotional shaming my parents will put me through when I try to obtain an OUNCE of freedom

Im a man that had strict parents, I’m 23 now. At some point ur gonna have to stand ur ground and not allow ur parents to abuse their parental authority to revoke your freedom. Not standing up for yourself is only gonna make it worse and have them believe ur never gonna go against their saying, especially if ur an only child.

I’m a man who had strict and abusive parents. One day they BOTH hit me in the face at the same time and I swung back once. I ended up getting sent to group homes and charged with felony assault, but I made it out and the charge was dropped. Now I’m in a better position, but the group home trauma and the fact that I’m now an adult with no family are consequences of that. Weigh your pros and cons, what was right for me may not be what was right for you. Good luck with everything

Thanks for the honesty guys, I should add that I had a very violent experience which heavily affected my mental and physical health. But prior to that I was living alone and well on my way to make my own life for myself and get the freedom I wanted. But since that experience they made me move back home and have pretty much revoked all my freedom. And I’m surrounded by their fighting and verbal abuse once again.

I mean, I’m the type of person that my parents know I would cut them off if they cross a line and they care about that. It all depends on how much you depends on them and value the connection. If you don’t depend on them for bills it makes it much easier. My parents were strict but that’s why I knew to establish independence so they have no leverage.

And no hate to any men who had this or abusive experiences, my heart goes out to you. I only meant that perhaps my circumstances being a woman are slightly different. My parents don’t treat my (younger) brother the same.

Yeah ofc. My younger brother was adopted from a different family (we were both adopted) and the adoptive family was physically abusive to him. They never physically abused me until they sent him to a group home, and then once he was gone, they started being physically abusive with me.

I’m doing amazing rn thank you, I mentioned so in my other comment, but It was at the expense of me not having a family now as an adult plus group home trauma. it was the right decision for me but nit for everyone. Good luck

It has to do with the way parents treat a daughter vs. son. Cultural expectations likely play a role as well.

You can say the same for a son. Theres just different expectations. Not trying to be rude or dismissive but idk just feels odd

When I talked about the incident that happened to me and my parents’ berating of me for my choices and subsequent restriction of my freedom, it relates to r*pe. Disproportionately women are victims. Does that answer your question?
