Tell me why my little sister is in 8th grade but can’t solve quadratic equations? I tried explaining to her what derivatives were and I talked about precalc because at her age I learned precalc and she didn’t know and I find out she can’t do quadratics

Is she even in algebra yet? Pretty normal for districts to not do algebra 1 until 9th grade, and it’s standard the quadratic formula is taught in algebra one. And derivatives aren’t even taught until AP Calculus, wtf are you doing here 😭 leave your sister ALONE

just because you learned preclac at her age doesn’t mean she should also know precalc the fuck??? i didn’t take precalc til 11th grade and even then my school didn’t require it for everyone i was just a year ahead in math.

I wasn’t taught derivatives until sophomore year of college, I’m pretty sure she has time lol. Shaming my sister about her being lower in math than me was definitely a middle school activity. Except I taught her in a way she understood after the fact

For reference I am only 6 years older than her and i graduated k-12 in 2024 and my education was still vastly different from hers

This is more a rant about the education system because why are these 8th graders struggling to solve and graph linear equations and aren’t even doing quadratic equations yet?

My sister is considered one of the smartest kids in her honors math class and she knows less than I, an average 8th grader in a non-honors math class knew
