It’s been a month since our cat has gone missing. My parents are talking about getting a new one. Fuck. I’m just not ready to move on.

You don’t have to yet. I got a new cat after loosing one and the guilt I felt after was not worth it. Also taking care of an animal is hard when you are grieving. Take some time there’s no rush 🤍

my cat went missing a year ago and it still hurts. in a way there is no sense of closure but in the kindest way maybe a kitten would help you grieve 🩷

Your cat is probably not coming back. HOWEVER if you can talk to any stray cats, show them pictures or something your cat slept on they may send a signal through whatever weird cat distribution system and lead your cat back home. It sounds stupid but I swear it worked for me, granted my cat was gone only a week so it could just have been luck

I’m so sorry, that’s so hard :( Something similar happened to my friend and with getting another cat it helped him to think of it like he was giving another cat a loving home while still always keeping his home open for his other cat to come back. Also one thing I like to think of is how cats are incredibly resilient. The uncertainty of it sucks, but when my cat ran away one thing that helped me is thinking that maybe somewhere he was enjoying doing his own thing or maybe found a cat gang.

it’s understandable that you might not want another cat yet, but your parents may have grieved many pets in their lifetimes. they might need something to fill gap that came from your cat missing

not rlly, it’s the truth though… like it’s upsetting but her parents are ready to move on sooner or later she has to face her feelings it’s real life, u shouldn’t run from them u shouldn’t hide u need to face them and try to recover asap

Everybody grieves differently 😭 just bc you can move on quickly doesn't mean that it's easy for everybody else. You gotta stop acting by like you know what's best for people you don't know. It's kinda weird

What a messed up way to write that comment

You can’t know that though. There are so many cases where people’s cats show back up months or even years later. They don’t have to believe their cat is dead in order to eventually get another cat.

You can’t say that immediately after nonchalantly telling OP their pet died and to move on
