My parents want to check my phone and they got very upset as I said I'm 23 years old female and I want my privacy. They told me that means you've something to hide and that they have trust issues. What do l've to do with this!

I agree with what #1 said. Once you’re out of their financial control you’ll be good. Parents feel entitled to hover and control you because of “being in school”. Despite the fact that we are and have been on our own for years!

Are you financially dependent on them? I have this same situation, but it’s because they fund literally everything, so I don’t mind too much although it’s annoying sometimes.

unless they threaten to withdraw funds for your education, put your foot down as much as possible, even if they sling insults/justification/yell at u because ur a grown adult. chances are, you’ve prob done nothing wrong and they’re just noisy and power-tripping. however, if they threaten to withdraw their funds to education/prevent u from getting your degree, just show them your phone after you’ve hidden stuff. it’s not worth losing your degree and freedom over not showing your phone.

Shii… sounds like they don’t respect ur autonomy yet. Do you have a career yet or pay ur own bills?

That’s why. Ur still a dependent so they don’t trust u as an adult yet. Undergrad is tricky without help but when my parents stopped paying for my life even as an undergrad, our relationship got much better

I’d say just temporarily hide everything that they wouldn’t like and give it to them. Then when you’re back at school put it all back. I know what it’s like to have parents like that, I’m sorry :/

It might work unless one or both of ur parents have ever worked in tech (I got caught way too often and I can hide stuff pretty well)
