I was gonna explain to him how these “cages” were very temporary, only intended to keep unaccompanied minors separate in order to more quickly and easily process and transfer them out of these facilities. It also only started due to a large influx of unaccompanied minors crossing the border, which overwhelmed border patrol facilities. They had to use makeshift areas, like these “cages” (which were more like partitions but I’m not gonna argue semantics). Comparing Obamas actions-

while I don’t agree with them, with trump’s is just a blatant false equivalency. Trumps detention centers are more systematically used, intended to be long term, and sport far worse conditions. Plus, Obama didn’t have the zero tolerance policy trump operates with, which has been broadly separating families.
