At it basis Jesus said treat anyone no matter who they are with love, kindness, and respect. Not hate someone because their skin color is different than yours, or they love someone the same sex as them etc. his most basic command was treat others as you want to be treated. And a lot of conservatives do not believe that nor live their life that way no matter how big of Bible thumpers they are. - grew up in a Baptist school, went to a southern Baptist church, in the Bible Belt.
Something one of my friends brought up the other day has been rlly sticking with me. There was an instance in the Bible where Jesus ran into a group of people about to stone a woman who had committed adultery. Legally, being stoned to death was the punishment of the crime she had committed. Still, Jesus put himself between her and the crowd, telling them that the first one of them who can say they’ve never sinned should be the one to throw the first stone at her. The crowd left one by one-
-Because they knew that yes the woman had sinned, but they’ve sinned too, plenty of times, but gotten away with it for whatever reason. Point is, Jesus is telling us that the law of love, His law, is always more important than the law of the land. And it’s not that Jesus says to never follow human government—he tells us to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s (essentially pay taxes), but when human government strays from the law of love, we need to fight against it.
People are corrupt; always have been, always will be. Jesus isn’t. And he tells us that loving each other is the most important thing. (Not to mention the time he went into the temple to flip tables, causing a rlly big scene because they had been using the church to justify their corruption.) That’s just my take on ICE and the current POTUS, but yep bible is pretty radical <3
