Like me previously? I’m not pro ai i fucking hate the damage it’s doing to our society and world. My point is that if we are concerned about water use and land use, then we can start by also cutting down on our beef and meat consumption which uses far more land and water than AI could ever hope to use. The majority of the worlds farmland is used for animal agriculture or feeding meats and cutting down on that would have a much larger positive effect on the environment

People suddenly start caring about water usage and pollution when it begins to impact their communities negatively through data centers built in the US. All while the meat you enjoy is grown from soy plantations farmed in the global south where indigenous groups have BEEN fighting for their land and their rights over centuries of colonialism just so we in the US can have cheap meat

Water is used in data centres for cooling while for agriculture it’s used for watering crops (which drains aquifers) sustaining animals as they’re being fattened up and in the meatpacking process (which is a smaller portion of its use) No I did not use ai to look this up

No, I don’t really actively avoid almonds, because the resource cost isn’t even really comparable. They Not to mention the ethics. From the LA Times: “Water leaves a ‘footprint’ in our food; here’s how it works”

Here’s a more complete article, titled “Do you know how much water was used to grow your food and to produce your clothes and the things you buy?” It says directly in the article that almonds are close enough to other tree nuts that they can be grouped together. For what it’s worth, I opt for oat milk, which is way less water-intense to make. I just don’t really like almond milk
