just email some profs that you’re interested in doing work under. then beg. promise you it works, i’ve been doing research undergrad for three semesters now!

how do i know if professors are involved in research? or is there are even open spots for my participation.

I can assure you, your college is most likely always looking for people to do research and they just don’t advertise it. My college has people that TA, clean up and prepare labs, prepare specimens, etc. And they get paid for all of that while they officially do research. Then there’s also people who specifically do research research.
