seatbelts keep you in your seat in the event of a crash, there’s no other way to prevent flying out of your seat. lifejackets keep you afloat, if you can swim you can keep afloat yourself

This just isn’t a good point, you can BRAKE before you crash, you can DROWN if you have a cramp, if the water is too rough, if your foot gets stuck… a million different things. Your view is literally not based on anything other than what you consider “normalized” if we didn’t have seatbelts now a days and they were recently invented I guarantee you would be one of the people calling them unnecessary.
