shit just hit the fan with my family and I’m seriously thinking of bailing on Thanksgiving. I need a mental break. I’m in the northeast. Any recs for a few hour drive somewhere to spend the weekend hiking? (and with affordable lodging nearby?)

Mount Washington will be busy and covered in friendly people

Long Lake is absolutely BEAUTIFUL absurdly tiny town- I don’t know what the weather looks like there this week, but it’s up in the Adirondacks and it’s so lovely there.

As a student of the area… ADK mountains. Cheapish hotels in Malone or old forge or saranac lake. Lake placid is more expensive but closer to high peaks

Just car camp around western ma and go to state forests and national wildlife reserves areas. Shit hit the fan be in nature this weekend no one will bother you. Old growth forests we have a few. Wikipedia has lists of them plot them on a map and wander.

Williamstown, MA. All the college kids go home so you’ll have the mountains all to yourself. Don’t stay at the Williams Inn though, that shit is expensive

How many hours? New River Gorge in West Virginia is criminally underrated but not in the northeast at all lol

White mountains always have some good hikes and car camping is the cheapest housing you can get

I have absolutely zero clue what the weather is like right now (like whether the snow has started sticking) but it’s a SUPER beautiful area and there’s a bunch of hiking. I’ve done some sections of the Northville-Lake Placid trail and the hikes around the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake are great

As a potential bonus, Adirondack Park has extremely limited cell service and it will be difficult for your family to nag you until you return to civilization
