First full time field tech job; is it normal to have a lab manager telling you that he’s decided to stay in your housing space (where’s not been scheduled to stay) and then talking about having the rest of his team crash in your housing as well? Im female

Bare minimum I’d ask what happened to everyone else’s housing situations and if that’s been cleared with whoever’s in charge of that

It was not cleared and this man asked me why I couldnt stay somewhere else; I think it might be a lab culture thing because I met the rest of his ten and they are all like that

That might be the culture but you don’t have to put up with it if you don’t want to. I’d get with the person in charge and ask if they’ll willing to play the bad guy and shut the team down for you.

Already contacted; I just wanted confirmation from a fellow professional that this wasn’t normal. I appreciate the affirmation

Yeah no that’s not normal. I’ve definitely heard of people working in the same lab getting housing together and have been to temporary communal housing for field research myself, but it’s not typical for an entire lab group to try and squat at one person’s housing situation.
